Mangalore University has a good number of foreign students under various departments. There are about 140 students from 29 countries including Afghanistan, China,Iran,Indonesia, South Africa and Nepal. For the next academic year 220 students have filed applications.
An international level hostel is being constructed in the university campus for housing these students. These students did not have well equipped hostels and are currently starting in renewed buildings in Derlakatte. As a solution to this problem a new hostel is being built in the campus premises. The building work is expected to be completed by September.
The work on this project had begun five years back but the authorities were waiting for the official orders. The university has used its own money to wait for approval for this multi-crore project. The ministry has approved the project now. Other blocks of the hostel will be utilized as the housing examination hall and the VVIP guest house.
All the universities in the world will have a separate examination block while Mangalore University did not have an examination block. The current examination block for the university is on the ground floor of the administrative block. The block next to the international hostel has now been decided to be made as the examination block. This would hence erase the difficulty the students and staff faced. Permission for this will be obtained in the meeting going to be held on 24th.
The vice chancellor of the university said that the new building would be inaugurated in the month of September. He also said that the building construction is in its final stage presently. The building consists of four blocks including the examination hall, VVIP hall and a few chairs of the university will also be shifted to the new building.
