World’s largest passenger aircraft touches down in Bangalore

The arrival of an Emirates Airbus A380 at Kempegowda International Airport on Friday (14th October 2022) around 3:40pm was a historic event for the city. It was the largest passenger aircraft in the world’s first commercial voyage to a city in southern India.

Captain Nikhil Thiagarajan and Sandeep Prabhu (Bangaloreans), piloted the aircraft which landed on the south runway. It was originally set to arrive on October 30, which advanced superjumbo’s arrival date by more than two weeks.The flight carrying 224 people were received at the welcome reception in Bangalore by ST Somashekar, Minister of Cooperation, Government of Karnataka; H.E. Dr Ahmed Abdel Rahman AlBanna, Ambassador of the UAE to India; and Hari Marar, MD and CEO of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL).

Bangalore has become the first city in south India to be served by Emirates’ flagship A380 aircraft. The arrival of this wide-body aircraft today demonstrates BLR Airport’s operational capability as well as the growing demand of passengers. The increased luxury experience provided by the new A380 service on the Dubai-Bangalore route will not only meet the high travel demand, but will also serve to stimulate traffic between the two markets.” Emirates’ A380 flights between Dubai and Bangalore will begin flying under the flight numbers EK568 and EK569 on October 30. The daily flight is planned to depart from the airline’s hub at 21:25 and touch down in Bangalore at 02:30 local time the following morning. The return aircraft takes off from Kempegowda International Airport at 3:30 and lands in Dubai at 7:10 p.m. (local time). Emirates also runs two more daily flights with its other widebody aircraft, the Boeing 777 & Emirates itself currently runs the A380 to over 30 locations worldwide, with plans to expand to over 40 destinations by March 2023.

The superjumbo weighs between 510 and 575 tonnes, according to Emirates. It is five giraffes tall and two blue whales long. The aircraft has a maximum range of 8,000 nautical miles (15,000 km) and can cruise at an altitude of 43,100 feet. There are roughly 480 seats available on the aircraft.
