The 100-year-old Mangalore municipal building will be demolished soon to make way for road construction. The city’s municipal government began during British rule, which will be removed to make way for Kanara Chamber Road. The building was to be restored as a heritage structure by Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL).

Mangaluru City Council (MSCL) is planning to widen Kanara Chamber Road, which connects Badriya School Junction in the ward. To facilitate the work, the old building needs to be demolished, and a letter was sent to the MCC in November, seeking permission. As per MSCL’s plan, it requires 35.6 sq m for the road. The old building is in dilapidated condition and is not being used. The MCC council has approved the proposal to demolish the building, and the resolution has been sent to the Town Planning Standing Committee for final approval.
