Mangalore International Airport[MIA] resumed the domestic cargo services, after getting a clearance from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security[BCAS]. The services at the airport were stopped for several months, due to objections raised by the customs department.

The domestic cargo terminal is functioning under the Cargo Logistics and Allied Services Compay, a subsidiary of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and the regulatory agency to conduct domestic cargo services at MIA.

Currently, services are available only for inbound cargo, and it will resume after a few days for outbound cargo, said Selva Kumar M, cargo manager, MIA. “Scanning personnel has been recruited from Chennai, and it will take some time for them to report for duty. The in-bound cargo services have sufficient staff,” he said.

Also, there is a proposal to shift to an international cargo facility near the domestic cargo facility. “A proposal has been sent, and a competent authority has suggested certain changes in the security system, and the process is on for the same,” an official said.
