Anganwadi centres in Dakshina Kannada to serve hot meals which includes milk and eggs to children, pregnant women and lactating mothers from March 1. Women and child development department deputy director Papa Bovi, said during the Covid -19 pandemic dry ration used to be given to every child to be taken home.
“Currently food items are being stocked in Anganwadi centres and the supply process is expected to be completed by next week. From March 1, there will be no take-home ration or eggs. Instead, all, including pregnant and lactating women, are required to visit nearby Anganwadi centres where nutritional food is served to them,” he said. The district has about 2,108 Anganwadi centres, 4,196 Anganwadi workers and 1.87 lakh beneficiaries, including pregnant and lactating women under the Mathru Poorna scheme.
Bovi said when the Anganwadi centres were shut, children aged between three and six years were given a take-home dry ration and eight eggs per month and pregnant and lactating women were given 25 eggs per month along with a nutritional food ration. Those who don’t consume eggs are given varieties of sprouts. Though Anganwadi centres opened in January, hot meals were not served to children but will be served hereafter.
