Mayor Premananda Shetty said that the state government has agreed to reduce water tariffs for domestic use in Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limits. An official notification in this regard will be issued by the government shortly, he added.
The city corporation had increased the water tariff in 2019. As there was huge opposition to it, MCC had written to the state government seeking permission to revise the tariff. The government has agreed to make a notification allowing tariff revision.
Shetty, who chaired the last council meeting as mayor on Friday, said he had given priority to administrative reforms and the comprehensive development of the city during his tenure.
The proposal to regularize 210 auto rickshaw stands in MCC limits was discussed in the council. However, the meeting resolved to take a decision on the proposal after discussing the issue with the departments concerned and inspection of space for parking auto rickshaws. The spots will be inspected in the presence of autorickshaw drivers/ owners’ association office-bearers, traffic police and officials. Thereafter, a decision will be taken on regularising the auto stands, the mayor said.
