A state-wide initiative—‘Kalika Chetarike’—will help students who had inadequate learning over the past two years. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, classes were held online, and some attended Vidyagama programmes, while others had minimal learning access for several months. However, all students were promoted to the next class, in the academic year 2020-21 and 2021-22. The initiative aims at re-learning academic lessons that children have missed in the last two years.

Rajalaxmi, DDPI (development) and principal of the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Mangalore, said that there has been a huge learning gap among the students, starting from class I. In order to bridge the gap, the ‘Kalika Chetarike’ programme has been initiated. It will be implemented for children from classes I to IX, across the district. Meanwhile, the government has also declared this year as an ‘Academic recovery year’.

She also added that a handbook has been prepared for all classes. The handbook with more than 150 pages, consists of lessons from the two previous academic years, that were affected by the pandemic.
