Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar introduced the country’s first homegrown COVID-19 vaccine Anocovax for animals on Thursday, created by the ICAR-National Research Centre on Equines in Haryana (NRC). Anocovax is an animal vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 Delta (COVID-19). According to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the immunity stimulated by Anocovax neutralises both the Delta and Omicron variants of SARS-CoV-2.
The ICAR said there are no laboratory animals required for the preparation of the antigens. The kit is made in India and a patent has been filed for the same. No other comparable kits for the detection of antibodies in canines are available on the market.
Surra ELISA kit was also released, which is a suitable diagnostic analysis method for ‘Trypanosoma evansi’ infectious disease in numerous animal species.
Surra is among the most serious haemoprotozoan diseases of livestock caused by Trypanosoma evansi. The disease is found in all agribusiness regions of India. Surra was estimated to cost India’s livestock productivity Rs 44,740 million per year, according to the ICAR.
ICAR is the country’s prestigious agricultural research centre, reporting to the Union Agriculture Ministry.
