Cats, cows, sheep, and dogs can sign up to donate blood and help save the lives of other living creatures who require blood transfusions. In addition to pets, if someone is raising street dogs, cats, or cows, such animals can be named and registered in the donors’ pet list of veterinary practitioners or pet clinics.
Most of the time, veterinarians face a tough situation when looking for blood donors for critically ill animals. As a result, this system is extremely helpful in saving the lives of dumb beings.
The dog’s weight must be greater than 25 kg, and it must be immunised on a regular basis in order to donate blood. The weight of a cat should be greater than 4.55 kg. Animals can donate one to ten per cent of their body weight in blood.
Dogs have 13 blood groups, while cows have 11, cats have three, horses have eight, goats have five, and sheep have seven. The only problem is that animal blood cannot be stored like human blood, and pairing is difficult. According to Dr Deepak of Shree Pet Clinic in Mysuru, giving them names and enrolling them at the blood bank will be beneficial.
