After a long wait for almost 12 years after the formation of Mangaluru police commissioner the city police finally will have its own armoury. The City Armed Reserve will have its own building, including an armoury.
Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said once the construction is complete, the weapons that have been allotted to the city police and are at present with District Armed Reserve will be shifted. The building will be located near the police commissioner’s office. Work is in progress and the building that is coming up at a cost of Rs 4 crore is expected to be completed in a year’s time, he added.
A source said: “Being a sensitive region, it is important for the police unit to have its own armoury.”
The police have 16 police stations in three sub-divisions — Mangaluru North, Southand Central. The traffic subdivision has four police stations.
