The deputy director of indirect taxes at Mumbai Customs, DRI Mishal Queenie D’Costa, IRS, was given a bravery award by the finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman for acting so bravely that she didn’t even fear for her life while pursing Nigerian drug dealers in Mumbai.
Nigerian drug dealers were apprehended in a daring operation with 1.9 kg of narcotic pills after they leaped from the a building roof during the previous fiscal year. First before complete police arrived, Mishal, a native of Neerude, Dakshina Kannada, followed the offenders and forcibly prevented them from fleeing. On DRI Foundation Day, the young officer was honoured for her bravery and outstanding performance.
Mishal, who obtained the 387th position in the 2015 UPSC civil service examination, is the second of Lazarus and Nancy D’Costa of Neerude’s three children.
