An elderly woman in Kudupu Ayara Mane, identified as Chandravati, showed incredible presence of mind and averted a potential train accident on March 21. A tree had fallen on the railway track in Mandara near Pachanady, just as the Matsyagandha Express train from Mangaluru to Mumbai was about to pass through. Sensing the danger, Chandravati quickly took a piece of red cloth and waved it at the loco pilot. The train slowed down and stopped before approaching the fallen tree.
The locals and railway personnel later cleared the tree from the tracks. Chandravati, who had undergone heart surgery, stated that she did not care about her health and only wanted to prevent the possible tragedy. The train had to halt for half an hour before resuming its journey.
