Mangalore International Airport takes a step towards safety with the touchfree concept

This new concept will rely more on technology to prevent direct interaction between the staff and passengers. While in the past the documents had to be presented to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel before entering the airport, now the changes have enabled the entry into the airport if the documents are shown to the person sitting inside the glass counter from outside. The baggage tags will be sent via message instead of being issued. While the boarding passes were scanned by the staff before, now the passengers have to do it themselves. The passengers should show their boarding passes to the camera at the security check counter. Those who come without the boarding passes can scan their barcode from their phone and get printed passes. Also the trays at the security check counters which carry the belongings of the passengers are not held by hands and are sanitized. 

Airports are at a high risk of having potential carriers interacting with a large number of people through different sources. Thus in today’s situation of the pandemic, steps should be taken to prevent further spread of the disease. Adjustments to the risk score will come by looking at additional risk factors, including the degree of shared physical interaction with equipment – self-service kiosks, passport readers, cabin baggage screening trays, etc. as mentioned above. Thorough cleaning of the surrounding will surely give us some sense of relief. But at the end of the day, all we can do is to keep ourselves safe by taking the necessary measures instead of waiting for the others to take the first step.
