A penalty of Rs 53,000 has been issued by municipal corporation officials to an apartment in the city. The fee was imposed because the inhabitants of the building failed to sort their waste despite the Mangaluru City Corporation’s instructions (MCC).
Every unit in the city was mandated by the MCC to suitably separate trash into dry and moist waste. The apartment must treat and use the wet trash, while garbage collection vehicles collect the dry trash. The MCC had warned that non-compliance with this directive would result in a penalty.
The apartment in Chilimbi did not follow the above-mentioned requirements. The residents of the complex proceeded to throw debris into the vehicles without segregating it. The MCC considered this unlawful act seriously and imposed a penalty of Rs.500/-on each of the flats in the building. The building has also been informed that if the fee is not paid, the water connection will also be cut off.
