The second coronavirus wave has proven that the pandemic does not lead to the loss of tiny infants, at least in the state. More than 7,000 persons under 20 have been infected in Dakshina Kannada alone, and none has lost their lives in that age range.
Over all, 45,030 people were infected in Dakshina Kannada between 1 March and 5 June. 16,440 of them were members of the under 30 age group. While so many youngsters were infected, just one person was killed, meaning that death rate for those under the age of 30 is 0.006 percent as a result of this disease. No one has lost life out of 7,232 people of up to 20 who are generally students. It is worth noting, sources indicate that as of June 5 – 1,318 people under 20 are treated in the district, while 2,563 in the 20 to 30 year age range are treated.
Even in the first wave, death rate was much lower in Dakshina Kannada district. Only two people between the ages of five and twenty perished during the first wave of 702 who died till 19 November 2020. In the second wave, not one of the age groups below twenty, which usually make up students, is from the overall death count of 205 to June 5.
The district nodal officer of Covid19, noted that the corona does not generally impact children and youngsters too significantly. Normally the age group has greater protection against illnesses and because throughout the period of infection they would recover well, he noted. They will also come into touch with others.
