As per new regulations issued by the Regional Transport Authority, the tariffs for private buses in the district have been raised. The Dakshina Kannada and Canara Bus Association and the Udupi Karavali Bus Owners’ Association have both requested that the fares be raised. The request was pushed back numerous times. The authorities eventually gave in to public pressure and issued a new updated bus ticket for private buses, which will go into effect on July 26.
The order further directs that a minimum of Rs 0.4 paise be collected from passengers of buses that travel through toll plazas. The previous fee for city buses was Rs 7 for travel within 2 kilometers, but this has now been hiked to Rs 12 for 2-6 kilometers and Rs 15 for 2-6 kilometers. Even remote regions are covered by the decree. Rs 16 for 6-8 kilometers, Rs 18 for 8-10 kilometers, Rs 19 for 10-12 kilometers, Rs 20 for 12-14 kilometers, Rs 21 for 14-16 kilometers, Rs 22 for 16-18 kilometers, and Rs 23 for 18-20 kilometers are the other adjustments.
