On the 13th of August, the Prime Minister delivered a virtual speech to the Gujarat Investor Summit, announcing the National Automobile Scrappage Policy. He called the scrappage policy a “major milestone” on the road to Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The scrappage strategy will give the country’s vehicle industry a new identity. As the Prime Minister stated that it will play a significant role in eliminating unsuitable cars from the roads and bringing good change to all sectors, not just the auto sector. The central government took this action because the country needs clean, congestion-free, and convenient travel in the twenty-first century. The Prime Minister described the program as a “waste-to-wealth” goal, adding that it is a vital element of the circular economy. It will help to clean up our cities while also demonstrating the government’s commitment to speedy growth.
Thousands of young people would be employed as a result of the initiative, which will bring in investments worth more than 10,000 crores. And will celebrate our 75th Independence Day in two days, but the next 25 years will be equally important because our daily lives will undergo significant changes as a result of technological advancements, PM added, that the government’s goal is to ensure that development is “sustainable and environmentally friendly.” He then went on to identify five ways in which the scrappage strategy would benefit the average person. To begin, a certificate will be issued upon the destruction of an old automobile, ensuring that an individual will not be required to pay registration costs when purchasing a new vehicle. He will also be eligible for a road tax reduction. Second, money will be saved on maintenance and repairs cost and fuel efficiency of the old car.
The third and fourth advantages, he claims, are that it will minimize traffic accidents and provide protection from pollution-related consequences. Fitness tests will be done at scrappage centers before they are scrapped, and only then, as per scientific procedures, stated the PM.
