Due to the approaching completion of repair work on a part of the highway near Sakleshpur where a landslide had hampered vehicular movement, are allowed to travel on this road starting Tuesday, August 17, vehicles up to 20 tonnes are allowed.
The Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner told reporters in the city on Sunday that the district administration is in touch with the Hassan administration, and that he has spoken to his Hassan counterpart about allowing heavy vehicles to pass through the Shiradi Ghat stretch of national highway 75. Light vehicles have been allowed on Charmadi Ghat road since August 13. Heavy trucks are not authorized on the Shiradi and Charmadi Ghat highways, thus anyone traveling to Bengaluru and Mangaluru must now take a detour.
Vehicles that are allowed to travel in Shiradi Ghat section, from morning 6am to evening 6pm: 2 wheelers, Cars, Buses, Jeep, Tempo, LCV (mini van), 6 wheelers, Ambulance, 20 ton capacity trucks, Iravata and Rajahamsa.
Vehicles that are restricted from travelling in this route are: Ship cargo containers, Bullet tankers, Heavy commercial vehicles, long chassis vehicle, Multi electric truck trailer and all sort of heavy vehicles.
