The Dakshina Kannada District has marked a test positivity rate of 3% while the state average is only 1%. This hike is observed in the district in view of increasing cases in the neighboring state. Officials have made surveillance strict at the inter state borders.
Kasargod district has conducted around 5,300 tests in a day while the district tested for 36,604 people in a week. It has been observed that villages bordering dakshina kannada have witnessed a depression in the number of cases.
Due to the hike in cases, the district has increased the number of testing per day to identify infected individuals and curb the spread of infection. The Dakshina Kannada district has conducted about 1.3 lakh RT-PCR tests with an average of 9,000 tests in a day.
A prominent politician said that the initiatives should be given to ASHA, who has been toiling to target contacts of infected people.
He added that Asha workers are over burdened as they have been multi-tasking. These workers have been updating the covid information on four mobile apps. They need to be provided with tablets so they can uptafe information easily. It has been suggested that all tablet technicians be provided with laptops. This will help the district to effectively trace and test people.
The health department of Kerala opened a test centre at Talapady. This was done after the Karnataka government made it mandatory to have the RT-PCR negative certificate to enter Karnataka. About 350 swabs get collected in a day, most of which are people from Kasargod working in Dakshina Kannada.
