In view of the first case of Nipah reported in Kozhikode, the district administration is checking for Nipah symptoms among travellers apart from the Covid negative certificate. The district administration of Dakshina Kannada has strengthened the surveillance at Talapady.
The assistant commissioner of police said that travellers are being checked with thermal scans and people with fevers or any other symptoms of Nipah are being sent back. The police are also keeping a check on the fruits being transported from Kerala.
An alert was declared in the Dakshina Kannada district as it shares a border with Kerala soon after the death of a 12 year old in Kozhikode due to the Nipah virus. The DC told the media that since Dakshina Kannada shares a border with Kerala and a large number of people commute between the states for health, education and business purposes, the Nipah alert has been declared in the district. The officials have been instructed to take all precautionary means to curb the spread of the disease.
