Mangalore University planning to introduce Open Book exam

From the academic year 2022-23, Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. stated the university plans to establish an open book examination method in a few undergrad programs. During the academic council meeting, the VC announced that from this academic year, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) will use an open book exam method in a chosen stream. Mangalore University would plan for the same from 2022 to 2023, following the example of VTU.

The open book test will need a great deal of forethought in terms of framing the questions for the students. In comparison to traditional tests, teachers must develop questions that force students to respond more analytically and critically, thereby strengthening students’ thinking abilities, he added. Mangalore University will establish an Entrepreneurial Development Cell, as per the VC, to raise entrepreneurship awareness among the student community. For this, the university’s training and placement cell will be reinforced. The University Employment Information and Guidance Bureau already exist at the university.

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell will assist students in developing entrepreneurship abilities. Through the cell, an eco-system for entrepreneurial awareness will be built. As per the VC, the Cell will also provide certificate or diploma courses in entrepreneurship. Mangalore University has suggested launching a five-year integrated law program at its postgraduate center in Chikka Aluvara, Kodagu district. The Bar Council has granted its approval in principle. The course’s syllabus and regulations are being finalized, with completion expected in January, as per the Vice-Chancellor.

The university’s Academic Council passed a rule controlling a certificate program in general law and a postgraduate diploma program in human rights law. The university’s syndicate meeting had voted to establish legal diploma and certificate programs. As a result, an expert group was formed, which developed the program’s syllabus and regulations, as per the VC.
