Sir Prabhakar Kamath, the founder of Mangaluru’s favorite ice cream business, died in the early hours of Saturday, November 6. Prabhakar Kamath, the founder of Ideal Ice Cream, died at 3.30 a.m.
Kamath, affectionately known as’ Pabba Maam, ‘began his company in the 1970s, specializing in general merchandise. He decided to open an ice cream parlor because his business was fluctuating.
He taught himself how to make ice creams by performing experiments at home with the help of his neighbors who served as his critics. He started Ideal’s Parlour on Market Road on May 1, 1975, with 14 flavors. In the decades afterward, the Ideal brand of ice cream has grown to be Mangaluru’s most popular tourist destination, with flavors and tastes that have made it a favorite not just among Mangalureans but also people all over the world.
