Dengue fever cases have increased by 84% in the last few years, raising concerns. Up to September of this year, the state had 2,987 dengue cases. However, excessive and unseasonably wet weather resulted in a total of 2,516 additional cases between September and November 17.

According to the state’s health department, more than one lakh tests for dengue symptoms were conducted in the state this year, with Bengaluru accounting for more than 40% of those tests. In Bengaluru alone, 1,038 cases of dengue fever were reported in 2021. According to health department sources, Shivamogga district reported 393, followed by Kalaburgi (386), Udupi (312), and Koppal (278). According to health department experts, constant rains, water stagnation areas, pits, and waste dumps have resulted in mosquito breeding, which causes dengue fever.
