Trilok Kothari, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) for Palakkad, stated that the track doubling work between Mangaluru Junction and Panambur will be finished shortly with the commissioning of the new tunnel in Kulashekara. At Mangaluru Central Railway Station, pit line work and additional platform work have begun. Efforts are being made to improve Mangaluru Junction with better amenities, the DRM stated at the division’s 66th Railway Week program, which was conducted at Konkan Railway’s Regional Training Centre.
The area’s electrification has been completed. Mangaluru contributes 90% of the Palakkad Division’s freight loading and helps the division earn more than 50% of its total revenue. Work on doubling the road between Mangaluru Central and Nethravathi Cabin has also been completed. Following the completion of development projects at Mangaluru and railway stations, more passenger trains will be able to operate.
