The Udupi District Police have launched a special beat system known as the “Sunset Operation” to keep a watch on drug trafficking, illegal activities, and the safety of women. The city stations’ police officers, including the SP and ASP, would conduct special rounds in Manipal once a week or more between 7 pm and 11 pm, especially in the sensitive and desolated region, as per the Udupi superintendent of police. They launched this system as a test two weeks ago (pilot plan).
The beat system will be expanded to any necessary location. This surprise beat method will aid in the investigation of crimes that occur late at night in the city. Victims of cybercrime and online fraud should contact the police or have their bank account closed, as per the SP.
