Admissions for colleges done, classes not held

Degree classes, which used to begin in June each year, have yet to begin this year, even though it is already the end of October. Although private independent educational institutions have begun degree classes, Mangalore University, which oversees the districts of Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi, has yet to do so. The institution had planned to start degree programs on October 29 but has now pushed it back to November 8. Students who have been accepted into degree programs must wait for a long time. This is due to the university administration’s lack of understanding of the central government’s National Education Policy (NEP).

The university stated that it will adopt the NEP beginning this year, but some claim that the university is not holding courses due to a lack of clarification on the NEP. Even though the university has said that classes would begin on November 8, no formal message has been delivered to colleges. Simultaneously, independent institutions such as SDM, Aloysius, and St Agnes are holding degree classes following the NEP and are approaching the first semester exams.

It is stated that the institution and its officials do not respond to inquiries promptly. Meanwhile, on October 25, a program to raise awareness about the implementation of the NEP will be held in the town hall. Interaction with designated institutions concerning next year’s curriculum is also taking place. As per the university’s vice-chancellor, semester examinations could not be finished due to numerous vacations, and the test that was postponed from October 19 will be held on October 29. Following that, a valuation will be carried out, and the results will be disclosed. As a result, degree classes are only begun once these have been finished.
