The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) advised a parliamentary committee that an additional COVID dose should be given after nine months of complete vaccination. As per ICMR chairman Balram Bhargava, a booster injection can be administered nine months after both doses of the COVID vaccine have been given. The Cabinet Secretariat will have a review of the Omicron strain, Covid Vaccines, and the present Covid situation tomorrow at 2.30 p.m. ICMR specialists have recommended using the Covishield Covid-19 vaccination as a booster dose, citing a decline in efficacy against Delta variants.
Our findings suggest that the Covishield vaccination was able to neutralize Delta derivatives and protect breakthrough patients from major sickness and death. This is from an excerpt from the research. A booster dose vaccination of Covid-19 naive vaccinees would result in a protective immunological response against evolving SARS-CoV-2 variants. Balram Bhargava had already informed at a news conference on the emergence of the Omicron strain in India that they need not panic. Omicron does not put a strain on the healthcare system.
