Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, authorities in Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi districts have taken decisive measures to uphold law and order during crucial election phases. Deputy Commissioners Mullai Mugilan M P and Dr K Vidya Kumari of DK and Udupi respectively have issued orders to halt liquor sales in their jurisdictions during significant electoral periods.
In Dakshina Kannada, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Mugilan M P has designated specific days as liquor-free periods. From 6 pm on April 24 until midnight on April 26, and during the counting days from midnight on June 3 to midnight on June 4, all liquor outlets, including wine shops, distilleries, and hotels, will remain closed.
Similarly, in Udupi district, Deputy Commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari has enforced a ban on liquor sales from 5 pm on May 5 until midnight on May 7 in the taluks of Byndoor and Kundapura. These measures, enacted under relevant statutes such as the Karnataka Excise Act General Rules 1967 and the Citizen Representation Act 1951, aim to ensure a peaceful and fair electoral process by maintaining public security and tranquility
