For months we have been covering the news about the newly anointed title of Blue Flag certification to Padubidri Beach and on Monday, 28 December 2020, the Blue flag was officially hoisted at Padubidri End Point to indicate that it is one of the eight beaches in India to be conferred this certification.
The ceremony, organised by the District administration, tourism department, Ministry of Forestry, Environment and Climatic Change, Government of India, Society of Integrated Coastal Management and A2Z Infra Service Limited, was conducted with the presence of eminent personalities virtually and physically.
The expenditure for the beach is Rs. 10.68 crore out of which the Central government and State government provided Rs. 8 crore and 2.68 crore respectively. The authorities hope to increase tourism in the beach by providing better infrastructural provisions like roads connecting to the beach, parking area expansion, retention walls among other things. Suggestions for more number of lifeguards in squads were also made during the ceremonies in order to make an attempt to protect tourists from the depth of the sea.
The facilities that one can avail on the Padubidri beach at its end point include a children’s park, bamboo sheds, jogging track, separate bathing zones, separate bathrooms for specially-abled persons.
