India began distributing COVID-19 vaccination boosters to healthcare workers and people over 60 with comorbidities on January 10, 2022. Adults (and some teens) are being encouraged to obtain the extra dosage of the COVID-19 vaccination now that booster doses are widely available.
- Those who received two doses of Covishield from the Serum Institute of India will receive the same vaccination as those who received the third dosage.
- This is also for anyone who received the Covaxin vaccination from Bharat Biotech International Ltd. and Sputnik.
- There will be no mixing and matching of vaccinations permitted.
- To obtain the booster injection, one must log in to their Co-WIN application account using their existing credentials.
- Another reason for receiving the booster dose is a nine-month (or 39-week) interval between the second vaccination shot and the booster shot.
- If you are qualified, the CO-WIN system will send you a reminder message to obtain your booster shot.
- You may either arrange a booster shot appointment using the app or walk into any hospital or center where the booster injection is given.
- Whenever it is given, the booster shot will be recorded in the app and on the vaccination certificate.
- Those who have recently tested positive for COVID-19 should wait to have the booster dose for at least three months.
- In government hospitals and facilities, the booster shot is being administered free of cost.
