Just like every other festival this year, Christmas has also been cut short so that the spread of the Corona virus can be kept at bay. Just like the rest of the world, Mangalore too celebrated Christmas in all its spirits but in moderation. The reminiscence of the love and joy for the birth of Jesus Christ is a reminder for everyone to treat each other with love, care and happiness. Thankfulness is the element of Christmas.
Earlier one could find carolers in front of their homes singing the Christmas tunes but now many things are restricted to one’s mobile and computer screens. Nevertheless, applications like Zoom and Google Meet bring music from all over the world and connect people even when it’s on a computer screen.
Cribs, christmas trees and stars are set in homes, churches, convents and other institutions depicting traditions. Cribs that depict the birth of Christ in a lowly manger that are decorated in churches like St. Sabastian Church Bendoor, Rosario Church, Derebail Church, St. Joseph’s Seminary in Jeppu, Milagres Church, Urva Church and Lady Hill convent in Lady Hill in Dakshina Kannada are very attractive.
Masses were conducted in churches and people came in moderation to attend the same.
