The Chief Minister of Karnataka formally launched the “Mukyamantri Raitha Vidya Nidhi,” which he announced on the day he took office and will offer scholarships to 17 lakh students through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme.
The Chief Minister explained that he decided to announce the Mukhyamantri Raitha Vidya Nidhi after learning that several children of farmers had dropped out of school after finishing SSSLC or PUC due to financial difficulties and that something needed to be done to encourage these children to pursue higher education.
The Chief Minister said the time has come to ensure that farmers receive remunerative prices for their work and that the State government would give priority to post-harvest management under the comprehensive agricultural policy, speaking at a function held in Vidhana Soudha on Sunday after launching the scheme. Farmers would benefit from scientific storage of agricultural produce, as well as transportation, marketing, and other services, he said. The Chief Minister has encouraged agricultural universities to take proactive measures to assist farmers in utilizing hybrid crops generated in laboratories and cultivating them for higher returns.
Bommai used the opportunity to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for enacting policies that had doubled farm revenue. The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana was created by the Modi government to provide farmers with a Rs 6,000 subsidy. When Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa came to power, the State government offered an additional Rs.4,000 subsidy, outlining the many initiatives taken by the Yediyurappa government to assist farmers.
