The Government of India has decided to expand the vaccination countrywide throughout April. Vaccination would be available on all days of the month including gazetted holidays. This would be applicable to both public and private Covid 19 vaccination centres.
The union health minister notified that the centre has informed all the states and union territories to make necessary arrangements.
The decision has been taken after detailed deliberation with state and UTIs on March 31 to enable rapid reach of the covid 19 vaccination to reach maximum coverage.
The ministry added in a press release that the decision is in line with the graded and proactive approach employed by the government of India along with the states and UTs for covid 19 vaccination.
The vaccinations provided are reviewed and monitored regularly at a highest level.
Based on the recommendation of the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration( NEGVAC) , the government opened covid 19 vaccination drive to people above the age of 45bon April 1.
The vaccination drive rolled on in the country from January 16 with healthcare workers having the first dose of the vaccine followed by the Frontiline workers from February 16.
Citizens above the age of 60 received the vaccination consecutive phase from March 1 along with people in the age group of 45-59 but with specified co-morbid conditions.
According to the ministry , 6,51,17,896 vaccine doses have been administered to the people through 10,86,241 sessions across the country , as per the provisional data dated 1st April 2021 , 7 AM.
