Dr. Ananth Prabhu G and his team has developed a free online portal named Cyber Safe Girl v3.0 to help people be more aware of the dangers on the internet.
Home secretary Roopa D, IPS and Kannada film star Kiccha Sudeep have inaugurated an online portal called ‘Cyber Safe Girl v3.0’ on October 3, 2020. The free web portal running on beta mode is one that, like its name, is a learning arena where Indians can learn about cyber safety, be responsible browsers and be well aware of cyber threats and scams that are highly prevalent these days. The portal also helps users be certified as ‘I am cyber safe’ by taking the course of 30 modules consisting of animated movies, lecture sessions as well as relevant lessons of the IT Act and then answering the online assessment on their mobile phones, tablets or laptops.
Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, professor at Sahayadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangaluru has curated the ‘Cyber Safe Girl v3.0’. Dr Prabhu is also a cyber safety trainer and is known for his involvement in cyber laws and cyber security. He trains Karnataka Judicial Academy and Karnataka Police Academy. Research assistant Rohan Don Salins has designed and developed the portal with the inputs from Sanjay Sahay Retd ADGP, Reena Suvarna ACP Bengaluru and Vaikunt Prabhu.
Dr. Ananth Prabhu believes that browsing while being responsible is highly important especially in a world that is so dependent on the internet. Online Fraud, scams and threats are very common and it is necessary that one is aware of the dangers. He emphasised that educating oneself about about these things will help create a cyber safe country. He plans to conduct more trainings at the newly set up Center of Excellence for Cyber Security at Sahyadri College.
