The institution was approved under the state government’s Sandhya Shakti plan to handle the increased demand for undergraduate admissions and to serve students from low-income families. The college will be built on the Car Street site of the current P Dayananda Pai Satish Pai GFGC, which has the greatest number of admissions among the district’s government institutions. Apart from Dakshina Kannada, the state’s department of higher education has approved the establishment of ten more evening colleges in ten municipal corporation regions.

It is the first evening college under Dakshina Kannada’s authority, as per health expert and joint director of collegiate education, Dakshina Kannada. It will serve the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kodagu. Starting this year, it will offer high-demand courses as well as job-oriented courses like BCom and BCA, which will have 69 and 60 seats, respectively, and will follow the Mangalore University syllabus.

Many students have been admitted to private colleges this academic year as a result of the lateness of the decree, as per the college’s principal. The evening college was suggested in the state budget for 2021-22. The directive also authorizes the department of college education to hire teaching and non-teaching employees.

A principal, seven teaching faculty, two non-teaching staff, and three groups of “D” employees will be added to the evening college. Its annual running costs are anticipated to be about Rs 57 lakh. Mangaluru, Dharwad, Belagavi, Ballari, Bengaluru, Davanagere, Tumakuru, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Vijayapura, and Kalaburagi are among the 11 city corporation areas where evening colleges have been built under the Sandhya Shakti initiative.
