Following a spike in Covid-19 cases in Dakshina Kannada, the DC Dr. K. V. Rajendra instructed colleges in the region to postpone offline classes for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes until September 15.
The DC told officials from the collegiate education department at a meeting conducted in this respect on Thursday that offline classes are not permitted because the district has a test positive rate of 2.4 percent. If the positive rate drops before September 15, we will hold another meeting of authorities from the collegiate education department. Only if the positive rate drops will a decision be made regarding starting the offline classes. Science students can participate in practical sessions in groups, following all of the Covid-19 standards. Meanwhile, all classes for students from all streams should be conducted entirely online, according to the DC. Vaccinations are mandatory for all teaching and non-teaching staff in colleges. All workers who have not received vaccines should be notified by the department of collegiate education.
Regarding students in rural regions who are unable to use the internet, DC stated that alternate possibilities, such as special arrangements to organize physical classes for them, will be considered.
