In consideration of the state government’s approval for the return of primary school courses on campus, the district administration in Dakshina Kannada has decided to begin providing midday meals on Thursday. Students in grades VI through X will be given the meals. Nearly half of the schools had already received foodstuffs and food grains for the preparation of midday meals, as per officials. Those who have not yet got the supplies might obtain them from local institutions. For the first time since March 2020, midday lunches are being offered on campus.
Due to a lack of time, the executive officer, Dakshina Kannada Usha M, informed TOI that they were unable to provide all schools with the required amount of food. In addition to practical issues such as transportation, our plan to deliver groceries to all schools was hindered by the several holidays that occurred in the previous week. For the time being, we’ve requested schools that got groceries to share them with schools that didn’t. Meanwhile, we’ll get supplies to all of the schools as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, school personnel has been cleaning the space on campus designated for the preparation of midday meals, and all those tasked with cooking and serving the food have been briefed on the standard operating procedure (SOP) to be followed. We’ve urged schools to repair any broken equipment that’s needed to prepare lunchtime meals. In Dakshina Kannada, there are a total of 3,213 midday meal employees.
