Despite an increase in COVID-19 cases, Dakshina Kannada schools continue to have high attendance. The district has 583 new cases as of Tuesday, and 1,872 current cases. Meanwhile, students believe that school closures would make it more difficult for them to complete their studies.
Every school has had a 98 % to 99 % attendance rate. Only a small percentage of students take classes online, but the majority prefer to be physically present in class. Due to reports about school closures, there is a minor drop in attendance in grades I-III at unassisted schools. The overall attendance of students in grades higher than class III has remained stable.
