After being honoured with the third highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan, in 2010; Dr. Belle Monappa Hegde of coastal Karnataka has been named amongst the Padma awardees this year.The 82 year old doctor, educator and author has been bestowed with the Padma Vibhushan on 26th January 2021, for his contributions in the field of medical sciences.
Trained as a cardiologist from Harvard medical school, with an additional degree in Ayurveda from Stanley Medical College ,Chennai, Dr. Hegde is indeed a renowned medical practitioner.He is the Co-Chairman of the TAG-VHS Diabetes Research Centre, Chennai and also the chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Mangalore.With the distinction of being the Former Vice Chancellor of Manipal University, Dr. Hegde has authored 35 books related to the field of medicine in English and Kannada.
Currently,Dr.Hegde is Editor-in-chief of Journal of Science of Healing Outcomes and also has been a key member in boards of several medical and engineering colleges and universities across the nation.He also was the Emeritus International Advisor to The Royal College of Physicians of London and Edinburgh. For 10 long years Dr.Hegde served as the first Indian Examiner for the MRCP examination in the UK, unanimously.
With more than 289 national and International Research Papers published Dr. Hegde has also faced harsh controversies. His Research work included use of nanoparticles with water to cure malaria,that is the use of ‘quantum healing’, which led to a few controversies to be handled.His approaches include the concept of Holistic Treatment -combined use of other forms of medicine like Allopathy, Ayurveda. Vegan by choice Dr. Hegde propagates the concept of in-built immune.
Dr.Hegde has also received the Prestigious Dr.B C Roy award in 1999.It is indeed an honour to have such an eminent and inspirational personality hailing from the undivided south canara province.
