On Monday, December 20th, people in several areas of the Twin Districts noticed some mysterious flying objects with bright lights. Satellites, launched into orbit by the US company SpaceX, led by South African entrepreneur Elon Musk, make up the long train of lights. On Monday evening, almost 40 satellites were visible in the sky between Mangaluru and Udupi.
As the satellites pass overhead, they appear to be a bright train of lights as they follow one another in orbit. The purpose of SpaceX’s Starlink project is to provide high-speed internet to every location on Earth, from London to Antarctica. People would subsequently have to pay a fee to use the service, which would have speeds that are slower than fiber broadband but quicker than current satellite internet services.
