According to British high commissioner, from October 11, Indian travellers who are fully vaccinated with both doses of Covishield will not be required to be quarantined in the United Kingdom and putting an end to the ongoing India-UK scuffle over recognition of Covid-19 vaccination in both countries.
Travellers from India to the UK who have been double-vaccinated with Covishield or any other vaccine recognised by the UK regulator do not need to be quarantined as of Monday, October 11th. As a result, entering the UK will be easier and less expensive. According to the British high commissioner, the UK has been open to Indian visitors for months and has processed thousands of visas for students, business travellers, and tourists. “Some of the recent commotion about this subject simply demonstrates how eager people are to visit the United Kingdom, which I applaud. Let’s increase the number of flights between the two countries “he stated.
The problem arose after the United Kingdom changed its travel guidelines on October 4 and did not include Covishield in its list of approved vaccines against Covid-19. The UK government then accepted the Covishield vaccine because it is a formulation of the Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine, which has already been approved by the UK regulatory authorities, but not India’s vaccination certifications, which were generated by Cowin. There have been several rounds of talks between India and the UK government to break the deadlock, as the UK’s refusal to recognise India’s vaccine certificate means that travellers who have received both doses of Covishield must complete the necessary quarantine in the UK. During the talks, India put a similar limitation on anyone travelling to India from the United Kingdom. It states that all UK visitors to India, regardless of vaccination status, will be quarantined for ten days.
