A 42-year-old guy from Bantwal taluk in the district of Dakshina Kannada lost 9.79 lakh to a fraudulent internet employment offer.
Rajesh Alva, a resident of Nadchal house in Veerakambha village, reported to the DK district Cyber Economic and Narcotics crime police station on February 20 that he had called a WhatsApp number in response to a social media job posting on December 18. He sought extra employment to enhance his income.
The job poster had given the complainant an application form, which he completed and sent along with his resume. Subsequently, he was instructed to pay numerous fees and charges for application processing, customs clearance, and visa processing, which he did through online and ATM deposits. He stated that the complaint paid a total of 9.79 million.
The CEN police have registered the case under pertinent IT Act sections.
Another Incident : A woman loses 80,602 when buying books.
In a separate incidence registered on February 20 at the Udupi district CEN police station, M.C. Roopashree of Koteshwara in the Kundapura taluk claimed to have acquired 80,602 in an online fraud while purchasing books.
Even after the specified delivery date, the victim’s online order of instructional materials was not fulfilled. When she contacted the courier firm, the person on the other end of the line sent her a link through mobile phone and instructed her to click it. She stated that she lost the money when 19 transactions were made on her bank account.
The CEN police have registered the case under provisions of IT Act.
