In DK, 5 Upgraded Technology Hub ITI’s Inaugurated

“The state government had entered into an MoU for 10 years, with Tata Technologies Ltd, to upgrade 150 ITIs in the country. Each ITI has given Rs 34.6 crore for development. In the Mangalore City South assembly segment, two ITIs have been developed. The upgraded ITIs will benefit 300 students every year”, said the Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath speaking at a programme held at the Government ITI (men) in Kadri, on Monday.

The upgraded centres will facilitate the upgrade of skills, product verification and virtual analysis, design for artisans and handicrafts, and product design and development which is expected to bring qualitative improvements in the field of industrial training and education. In addition, the centres will also impart training to students on self-employment, he added.


In Dakshina Kannada district, five ITIs, including the Government ITI (men and women) in Mangaluru and ITIs at Belthangady, Puttur and Vittal, were upgraded to open up employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for students. The workshops of the upgraded ITIs will have computer numerical control (CNC) machines, electrical vehicles, information content exchange, vertical machining centre, robotic cell, plumbing section, paint booth, car lift, laser cutter, meeting and faculty room.

The technology labs will have an IT and service lab, technology centres for design and development, a product verification lab, and a very small aperture terminal, he said. Under the employment scheme of the Karnataka government, 23 short-term courses, and six long-term courses will be offered at the centres.
