The Karnataka government is deciding to relax the lockdown restrictions making sure to be prepared to tackle the possible third wave.
The lockdown was introduced during the last week of April. There were partial restrictions in many districts from June 14 while the second phase of unlocking will be done on June 21. The Health minister emphasised on abundant caution that is needed at the moment.
The minister told the media that the process of unlocking and preparing for the expected third wave has to happen simultaneously. Along with considering the relaxation for trade and services, the government is also focusing on precautionary measures to fight the anticipated surge in case.
The Minister will hold meetings with medical professionals for relaxing the guidelines and necessary measures to curb the rise in the number of infections.
Decisions are being made to allow hotels, restaurants, malls and non essential shops to operate with time restriction and limited occupancy. Public transportation services are also expected to start operating soon while the detailed report will be available in a day or two.
The TAC has told the government to observe the impact of unlocking in June 2020. The panel wants the government to study the impact that will be created on the spread of the virus once the migrant workers and other crowds gather.
Although the third wave is expected in September-October, some experts have warned it to arrive by August. The government is expecting the report headed by a prominent doctor and her team. The deputy chief minister added that they are focusing on improving the existing medical infrastructure along with improving pediatric care.
He also stated that they are planning to set up 100 beds in secondary hospitals in each assembly constituency along with a tertiary hospital in every four constituencies. The facilities in the primary health care centre will also be upgraded. A tough self imposed deadline of 15 days has also been imposed.
A 100 bed state- of- art- hospital sponsored by Boeing India and Selco Foundation. The BBMP chief commissioner said that extensive vaccination coverage is another aspect of preparedness. The government is aiming to get at least 50% of adults receiving the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination.
