The Karnataka Transport Department is working to ensure that all cars registered in the state before April 1, 2019, have high-security number plates (HSRP). To prevent counterfeiting, all vehicles registered since then have been equipped with tamper-proof HSRPs. They’ve already put out a tender to find an agency to assist them with carrying out the strategy. In addition to the laser-branding of a permanent identifying number, the HSRP features a chromium-based hologram that is placed by hot stamping on the number plates both front and rear.
As per the authorities, the agency that will be chosen for the procedure is anticipated to set up a manufacturing facility within three months of signing a deal with the department to enable embossing and affixation of HSRPs. The lowest price for HSRP installation will be chosen as the winner. The state government had started doing this years ago, but the tender that was launched in 2013 was canceled after a series of disputes led to the case being taken to court. This time, we expect to finish the procedure without incident, a top official confirmed to indianexpress.com.
Officials reported that some other states have already adopted similar measures to combat the “fake number-plate problem.” Meanwhile, each RTO will have affixing stations within its authority, as per tender. The organization is also anticipated to give car owners the option of making online reservations and assist them in getting HSRPs installed at their homes. Motorists, on the other hand, will be charged for the service.
