Due to rising fatalities and positive cases in most districts, the Karnataka Government is reportedly contemplating an extension of the ongoing lockdown beyond May 24, 2021. Experts have advised the State Government to be cautious even though the second wave is expected to be curbed by the first week of June 2021.
The Lancet India Taskforce has also advised the State to extend the lockdown for at least one or two weeks with stricter restrictions in order to check the alarming spread of the virus in the State. The Chairman of the Technical Advisory Committee stated that reports and regular inputs are being submitted to the government and the subject of the lockdown extension is under discussion. However, the situation would be reviewed again by May 20, 2021 and a report would be submitted.
Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Narayan clarified that the government will take a final decision on the extension of the lockdown at an appropriate time.
