The Karnataka police department is gearing up to provide transgender people with more chances by soliciting applications for special reserve subinspectors and scene of crime officers (SOCOs). The Additional Director General of Police (Recruitment) released a statement stating that five of the 70 positions are designated for transgender people. Those interested in applying for the special posts can do so online from December 12 to January 18.
Not just the Karnataka police, but also the Forensic Science Laboratory has announced an open call for applications for 206 Scene Of Crime Officer positions, three of which are reserved for transgender people. The application deadline is January 15th. About 1% reservation for transgenders was added to the Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) Rules, 1977. The supplementary police director-general (recruitment) set aside five positions for transgender people and put out a call for applications in response to a government requirement.
As per the announcement, transgenders would be appointed to four special reserve sub-inspector positions with the Karnataka State Reserve Police and one special reserve sub-inspector position with the India Reserve Battalion.
