Over the past ten days, districts like Bidar, Yadgir, Haveri, and Bagalkot have been reporting nil or single digit cases. The nodal officer for covid 19 testing in Karnataka suggested that this could be a sign of the dying second wave. According to reports on Friday, Bidar had zero active cases while Raichur reported 3 and Gadag 17. Along with Raichur, Vijayapura also reported zero cases. Yadgir reported one case on Thursday and three on Friday. The drop in these districts has contributed to the drop in cases across the state as well.

These districts have a TPR below 0.1%, while Dakshina Kannada is marked at 2%. Dr. Manjunath told the media that the declining trend shows that there’s a reduction in the spread and severity of the disease. He added that, barring Kerala, they are seeing similar trends across the country as well. The third wave is expected to occur between October and November, while nobody can judge the severity of the wave. Yadgir did not report a single case until Thursday. The district conducts around 2000 tests a day and there’s only one patient in the hospital and the other 23 are under home isolation.

The district health officer of Yadgir said that a higher number of tests are conducted at railway and bus stations. They’ve made sure that the inter-district movements are low. Recently, a nursing student from Dakshina Kannada tested positive while two others from Bangalore also tested positive for the infection. The health department officers fear that the local body elections in the Hubli-Dharwad region could trigger a fresh outbreak. Dr. VG Reddy told the media that for the past 16 days, there have been no new infections in Bidar. This clearly shows that there has been no local transmission.

The number of cases at Horamavu’s Christian College of Nursing reached 34 on Friday, a day after minister Sudhakar visited the college. The minister said that Karnataka is an educational hub and students from across the country come here to study. Schools and colleges need to be vigilant and must ensure that all the guidelines are being followed. The residents numbering 800 around the college will also be tested. Regarding lifting restrictions on Ganesh Charthurthi, the minister reminded of the rise in cases post onam as the restrictions were lifted.
