Visitors should wear traditional Hindu clothes to Kateel Goddess Durgaparameshwari temple, according to a board conspicuously posted recently. According to temple sources, the temple has not received any formal orders in this regard.
They did clarify, however, that the goal of the dress rule is to raise awareness among visitors to the shrine. “The temple is a sacred space in which the atmosphere should be favourable to feelings of devotion and faith. Many temples are using this method to raise public awareness.
The temple’s priest explained that this request was made because temple guests are required to dress according to Hindu norms. He added, however, that this is a request, not a requirement. Several temples in the Dakshina Kannada district are expected to follow suit in the near future. In Subrahmanya temple, there is no such board. According to temple sources, they have not received any directives along these lines.
