With the confirmation of Norovirus, an animal-borne illness spread by contaminated water and food, in Kerala’s Wayanad district on Friday, Health Minister Veena George urged people to be cautious and issued guidelines. The Minister of Health has ordered that preventative actions be stepped up and that public awareness about the condition is increased. She has also issued a district-wide directive warning people to stay alert.
The Kerala health department examined the situation in Wayanad today in a meeting led by George. There is now no cause for alarm, but everyone should be watchful. Super chlorination is one of the activities now undertaken. It is necessary to guarantee that drinking water sources are clean. The condition can be treated quickly with good prevention and therapy. As a result, everyone should be informed of the condition and how to prevent it.
Noroviruses are a kind of virus that causes gastrointestinal problems. The virus causes stomach and gut lining irritation, as well as severe vomiting and diarrhea. Healthy adults are unaffected by norovirus, but it can be dangerous to small children, the elderly, and those with other comorbidities. Direct contact with sick people can potentially spread this animal-borne illness.
The virus is transferred by an infected person’s diarrhea and vomit. As a result, extreme caution is required due to the disease’s rapid spread. The virus, on the other hand, can spread for up to two days after the sickness has begun. Diarrhea, stomach discomfort, vomiting, nausea, fever, headache, and body pain are all frequent Norovirus symptoms. Dehydration and other problems might occur as a result of acute vomiting and diarrhea.
As per the rules, affected patients should stay at home and take ORS solution and heated water as advised by their doctor. As a preventative strategy, one should pay close attention to their immediate surroundings and personal cleanliness. Before eating and after using the restroom, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. The health ministry’s instructions state that anyone who comes into contact with animals should pay careful attention. Bleaching powder should be used to chlorinate drinking water sources, wells, and storage tanks. For home use, chlorinated water is recommended. To consume it, only use boiling water.
